Putting the “LOVE” back in Stepmom

Today’s topic is about being a stepmom and still being misunderstood, hope someone can relate!!!

As y’all know Disney really messed up the name and image of “Stepmom“ for us. As you know Snow White, Repunzel, Cinderella and all the other Disney Princesses had evil step mothers and since I was a child I always told my parents that one day when they get divorced I don’t want a step parent.

I always thought they were evil! Until my dad married again and I loved my step mother. She wasn’t evil one bit, she was the most loving and caring person I’ve ever me. Sad to say they got divorced and happy to say my mom and dad got remarried. My way of thinking totally changed after that.

When I met my husband I was a bit cautious of raising another woman’s children, I didn’t want to be known as the evil stepmom, but after a while I realized that I was afraid of what I learned from Disney, I am not evil, I love my kids like they’re my own. Yes they don’t call me mommy but at least I know they love me as a second parent.

I always told my parents that family is not by blood but by LOVE and up until know I realized that this is more the truth than I thought it was!

Yes I struggle sometimes and yes I make mistakes but one thing I know is that my kids’ happiness will always come first.
